MARNET project

Logos Marnet y Atlas Enlace a AMCI MARNET (Marine Atlantic Regions Network) is a EU collaborative transnational project involving eight partners from the maritime regions of the EU Atlantic Area (the Basque country of Spain, Brittany in France, Stirling in Scotland, Porto in Portugal and the Border Midland and West region of Ireland).

The aim of the project is to create an EU Atlantic marine socio economic network that will develop a methodology to create and collate comparable marine socio-economic data across the Atlantic regions and to use this data to support marine socio economic development initiatives along the Atlantic Area.

The €1.3m project involves the participation of marine researchers as well as Regional Authorities across the Atlantic Area. The UE contributes to the project with 851.464€.

The Project is part funded by the ERDF through the EU Interreg Atlantic Area Programme 2007-2013.

Aims of the Project

  1. Examine the economic utility of the marine environment
  2. Enhance the competitiveness of the Atlantic Periphery economy by providing marine socio economic information of the utmost importance to the economic development of marine sectors
  3. Establish a formal charter for sharing marine socio economic research facilities
  4. Create an Atlas of marine socio economic indicators for the Atlantic Area
  5. Act as a framework to collaborate on further marine research initiatives
